Georgia Ports Authority / United States Coast Guard
RT installed the first AIS (Automated Ship Information System) in the port of Savannah allowing compliance with USCG mandate. All vessels greater than 200 dead weight tons should have an AIS pinging device to transmit information such as vessel name, flag of nation, destination, etc. If a vessel does not have this device, it will not be allowed to enter the port. The system also allows the respective parties to monitor this traffic at there respective command centers. This helps the Bar Pilots and USCG to make arrangements to meet the vessels at the Pilots Station off Tybee’s shore.
